Taittinger turns to stone
Taittinger is creating a limited edition stone case for its Comtes de Champagne prestige cuvée to celebrate the 800th anniversary of Reims cathedral this year.
The container, which weighs 30 kg, has been crafted from stone used in the refurbishment of the cathedral, which was founded in 1211.
Just 100 of the stone cases are being made and all proceeds from the sale of this specially packaged Champagne from the 2000 vintage are going towards the cathedral.
The stone case comes with a glass window and will be enclosed in an oak box strapped to a carrier with wheels for pulling the weighty product.
Taittinger is also releasing a limited number of its Comtes de Champagne 2000 in a cardboard case that opens up to reveal an image of the cathedral interior (pictured). Just 800 of these formats are being made to celebrate the 800 years since construction first began on the cathedral.
