New on-trade training scheme
A new training company, Enjoy Discovering Wine, launches this week to educate both on-trade teams and consumers about the fundamentals of food and wine matching.
The founder of the new course is Erica Dent, former managing director of Wine and Sign. A Wine & Spirit Education Trust certified educator, Dent is keen to draw on her experience teaching for the trust while keeping food and wine matching fun.
Dent says: “I want to give people the basic tools so that they can then go off and teach themselves. And above all, I want them to have fun while they’re learning!”
Enjoy Discovering Wine was set up after Dent saw how increasing numbers of consumers were signing up to learn about wine and studying alongside the trade. With consumers increasingly knowledgeable about wine, “it is ever more important to educate your front-of-house team”, she added.
Based in Southampton the training programme will involve local themed dinners for matching food and wine, as well as visits by Dent to wine lovers’ homes for a matching session.
Dent added: “If Level 1 WSET wine students can learn it in a few hours then I knew I could show people this in a couple of hours, and importantly make sure that they learnt it having fun, no stuffiness at all.”
Enjoy Discovering Wine launches on the 28th January. For more information visit www.enjoydiscoveringwine.co.uk
