Bordeaux Winebank hails further success
Bordeaux Winebank has hailed the success of its second sale of top châteaux, in conjunction with Sotheby’s Hong Kong division, as further proof that buyers are willing to pay for provenance.
The sale, held earlier this week, saw records set for cases of 2000 Mouton Rothschild, Palmer and Angélus, which sold for HK$217,800, HK$38,720 and HK$45,980 respectively.
These prices beat those set at a previous Winebank auction in New York last year.
Henning Thoresen, CEO of Bordeaux Winebank, said: “Sophisticated buyers in this exciting Hong Kong auction have embraced the opportunity of buying pristine Bordeaux with ‘five star provenance’.
“We believe three world auction records were set and this proves the important position both Sotheby’s and Hong Kong are taking in the world of fine wine.
"We look forward to returning to Hong Kong in October with more exciting lots – all with five star provenance – all coming direct from the great cellars of the top châteaux of Bordeaux.”
Michael Egan, director of authenticity and auctions at Bordeaux Winebank, noted: “All of our lots were sold above the high estimate, which proves that provenance is of utmost importance to buyers worldwide.
"Enthusiasm for the 2000 vintage, one of the greatest ever, remains extremely strong and we take this opportunity to thank our friends at Sotheby’s for making this auction so successful.”
The next Bordeaux Winebank auction will be held at Sotheby’s in London on 25 May.
