Bespoke English wines for Michelin-starred restaurant
Denbies Wine Estate has teamed up with Michelin restaurant The Bingham in Richmond upon Thames, south west London, to create a bespoke collection of wines.
Emphasising the restaurant’s commitment to locally-sourced produce, Samantha Trinder, owner of The Bingham, described the move as “a natural progression”, revealing that discussions with Denbies began back in the summer.
The as-yet unnamed collection will feature three wines: a house white, a more complex white and a red made from 100% Pinot Noir.
The house wine will be available first, appearing in early spring next year, made from a blend dominated by Müller-Thurgau and Ortega. The second white is a barrel-matured blend of Chardonnay and Bacchus, available by early summer next year; while the Pinot Noir is due to appear next autumn.
Brendan Seal, vintage winemaker & viticulturalist at Denbies, said: “The red is the first still Pinot Noir of this quality to be made in the UK. It is a superb example of pure Pinot Noir and one which can certainly give New Zealand competitors a run for their money.”

We at Chapel Down, England’s largest wine producer, know that a huge amount of work goes into a collaboration like this. We were the first producer to team up with a top restaurant back in 2007 when we provided a bespoke blend of our Bacchus Reserve to Roast restaurant in Borough Market, a restaurant and bar dedicated to classical British cooking using the finest seasonal produce.
Since then, the listings and sales in Roast have gone from strength to strength thanks to the support of Iqbal Wahhab and his team. We clearly set a trend back then! Hopefully we’ll see more restaurants really championing English wine in this way in the future.
