Mumm new vintage the best since 1955
G.H. Mumm has just released its 2002 into the UK market, a vintage which has been hailed as the "best since 1955".
Mumm Cordon Rouge Millésimé 2002 was described by Champagne aficionado Tom Stevenson as one of its best ever vintages.
The wine, which has no Pinot Meunier, is dominated by Pinot Noir with 68% in the blend. Upon releasing the wine, the house said that in 2002 the Pinot Noir villages of the Montagne de Reims were hallmarked by “the freshness of Verzenay and the delicacy of Mailly balancing the power of Bouzy, mellowed by the rounder crus of Ambonnay and Verzy.”
The Pernod Ricard-owned house added: “The Pinot Noirs displayed wonderful balance and structure with great ageing potential, which will allow the 2002 to mature gracefully for at least a decade.”
The wine will be available in both the on-trade, and in Majestic with an RRP of £37.99.
