Casillero del Diablo goes lightweight
Casillero del Diablo is cutting its carbon footprint with the introduction of Ecoglass lightweight bottles across its range.
The newly packaged bottles will begin appearing on UK shelves this month and have been on sale in Chile since August.
The initiative will see the brand use 2,200 tonnes less glass every year. Around 700 of these tonnes will have been lost solely from the brand’s exports to the UK, which equates to a reduction of 140 tonnes of CO2 a year.
The new Ecoglass bottles, each of which weighs 500g, will reduce the bottle weight of the range’s Bordeaux and Burgundy formats by 12% and 13% respectively.
The winery is also taking steps to measure its water footprint. By calculating its water usage during the production process, the brand can then take steps to limit its environmental impact.
