Bidding for heroes
The Bid for Wine auction has closed having raised over £10,000 in aid of Help for Heroes.
The silent auction, which ran during the Fine Wine Fair last month, attracted strong interest and featured a number of hard to find and exclusive lots.
The top performers over the course of the auction included a case of 2003 Echezeaux Jayer-Gilles at £1,114; a case of 1995 Grand Puy-Lacoste for £735; a Methuselah of Moët & Chandon NV signed by England cricket captain Andrew Strauss for £407 and another Methuselah signed by Harlequins rugby team for £400.
Lionel Nierop, managing director at Bid for Wine said: “There were some very generous bids across the board. There were also one or two bargains to be had and that’s the beauty of auctions in that occasionally people pick themselves up a treat and it’s one of the other advantages of buying at auction over brokers and traditional merchants.”
With regards the total amount raised he commented: “It was a pleasingly large amount and it’s really good to see it going to such a good cause. Those who’ve bought the wines have got some lovely stuff and they can be doubly happy knowing that they have some wonderful fine wine and that their money has gone to such a wonderful cause.”
