Bernard de Nonancourt dies
Founding president of Champagne Laurent-Perrier, Bernard de Nonancourt, passed away on Sunday, 31 October.
De Nonancourt worked for more than half a century with the Champagne house in his quest to improve the house’s position in the market.
Commander of the National Order of Legion of Honour, and having received the Military Cross 1939-1945, Combatant Cross and the Medal of the Volunteer, de Nonancourt served in the Résistance alongside the Abbé Pierre, then with the 2nd Armoured Division (2nd DB) commanded by General Leclerc.
He took over the helm of Laurent-Perrier in 1949, at the request of his mother Marie-Louise de Nonancourt.
Described as “a charismatic entrepreneur”, during his time at the house he brought it up to the third place in terms of value. The house said that “his uncompromising determination for quality and his remarkable human dimension both remain deeply anchored in the company’s values.”
De Nonancourt prepared his succession at L-P for several years. He handed over the running of the house to his daughters Alexandra and Stéphanie – who respectively joined the House in 1987 and 1995, and are now members of the management board.
