Antinori brothers showcase new venture

The international launch of Antinori project Tenuta di Biserno will take place in London next week.

A joint venture between Lodovico Antinori and his brother Piero, the Tuscan range will consist of three Bordeaux-inspired blends and will be imported and sold exclusively by Corney & Barrow.

The estate in Bolgheri was originally identified in 1994 as land suitable for extending the Ornellaia estate, the wine from which made Lodovico famous. However, Lodovico decided that Tenuta di Biserno’s diversity of terroir dictated that the land had to be treated separately and in doing so, he significantly altered the planting proportions of his favoured Bordeaux varietals.

The wines, which will be launched on 10 November, include: Il Pino di Biserno 2007, a blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot (£31.35); Biserno 2007, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot  (price TBC) and Lodovico 2007, a blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot (price TBC).

Lodovico Antinori said that he has created a “legacy” for his daughter Sophia with the creation of the Tenuta di Biserno estate, where the director of viticulture is Ranieri Orsini, former winemaker at Ornellaia.

The brothers also confirmed that Michel Rolland is consultant to the estate, as with the rest of the Antinori portfolio.
