Travel retail big hitters revealed
Big brands are becoming ever more dominant in the travel retail sector, according to the Top 50 Travel Retail Brands report.
The figures, which were revealed by the International Wine & Spirits Record (IWSR), added that Pernod Ricard had the largest number of brands of any category in the Top 50 list.
Speaking of the findings, the IWSR Drinks Record editor, Alexander Smith said: “Travel retail is a market dominated by the big international brands and the evidence of the past couple of years is that the proportion of the market accounted for by the big trademarks is increasing.”
Despite French company Pernod Ricard posting a decline of brands such as Absolut and Chivas Regal in the last year, the company features most frequently in the Top 50 list with 11 brands.
Coming a close second is Diageo, with nine brands, even though it is the owner of the overall highest-ranking brand in the top 50 with Scotch Johnnie Walker.
Featuring 11 times in the Top 50 list of most popular brands in travel retail outlets, Scotch whisky had the largest number of brands of any category. Flavoured spirits was next at nine, followed by vodka at eight.
