Online merchants go head to head
Two UK online retailers have challenged each other to a tasting dual in a unique customer benchmarking exercise.
FindWine and Naked Wines will host a blind tasting with a series of ‘man on the street’ customers in a bid to drum up extra trade.
The tasting will feature two price bands; £6 to £10 and £10 to £15. There will be eight sub-categories in each price band, across the style headings of Zippy, Aromatic and Filthy Rich (whites), Rosé, Light and Fruity, Soft-isticated (Ed: groan) and Richer, Deeper, Darker, Stronger (reds) and finally, Fizz.
The judging criteria is in the process of being finalised but the current schedule will see 15 customers from both FindWine and Naked Wines providing their opinions and choosing their preferred wines (and ultimately, retailer) in the process.
Speaking of the initiative, FindWine founder Mike Howarth told the drinks business: “There are lots of ways to keep consumers interested in wine, but for us as a relatively new wine retailer, we need to work out how to keep customer loyalty without succumbing to discounting.”
