BBC to uncover nasty ingredients in drinks
UK TV channel BBC3 will tonight air a potentially inflammatory programme on the ingredients in certain alcoholic products on the UK’s supermarket shelves.
Called Britain’s Really Disgusting Drinks, the documentary considers the contents of plonk, super-strength lager and the so-called “functional” drinks sector.
It will be presented by comedian Alex Riley and follows his controversial Britain’s Really Disgusting Foods shown last November.
Tonight’s programme, which starts at 9pm, includes an interview with wine critic and biodynamic winemaker Monty Waldin on the “hidden ingredients” in wine.
It’s another potentially inflammatory expose of the drinks industry after September 2008’s Dispatches documentary called What’s in Your Wine, written and presented by The Sun newspaper’s Jane Moore.
In 2009’s Britain’s Really Disgusting Foods presenter Riley checked out the nutritional content of low-budget meat and interrogated manufacturers behind products of dubious environmental and nutritional quality.

I watched the Disgusting drinks show presented by Alex Reiley and as a responsible drinker I was taken aback by the childish attitude of the reporting. Yes we should drink responsibly, and most of Britain’s population do. Reporting in such a manner and making such demands of production companies, means that those of us that take responsibility for our actions are going to loose out. This show was completely biased and sort to, as usual, remove any responsibility from the individual about their drinking habits. I live in Glasgow, in a high Buckfast consuming area. Though not a fan of the drink myself, I do bear witness to the effects that it can have directly. Buckfast is a drink that should be consumed much like sherry: a glass or two from the bottle. The fact that young people chose to do what they will (fancy that!!) is no great surprise. As usual, Britain is being shown as a country that can not just take responsibility for individual behaviour and choose to blame the producing companies. So will the next step be banning caffeine drinks such as Red bull, as people are mixing it with vodka!! A cocktail that most likely, contains more alcohol and caffeine than Buckfast measure for measure. And I could not, did not and would not watch the full show as I was totally irritated by the bias. Not what I would view as responsible reporting in my opinion.
I LOve his irreverent, involved style, yes its biased and yes the food industry is kicking out industrial “food products” more than using real food,. more discusting is the pretense of having real foods in foode products that have little of the food they are pretending to be.
the german king who instituted reinheitsgabot law in 1630 or so decreed severe punishment for those who put crap into teh beer they were making . I think it might have been death or dismemberment for not using pure brewing ingredients . I say yea to that for all foodstuffs! When I buy cheese I want cheese! not some gooy filler crap that sorta melts like cheese sorta looks like cheese but unlike cheese will look like cheese for 1000 years after it finds its way into the landfill.

This program is a joke, watched the disgusting food program thought they where quite good, but he or his producers clearly have the wrong idea about the drink responsibley slogan. When it says drink responsibley it doesnt mean you shouldnt go over your recomended amount for a day (obviously you shouldn’t) like they make it out in the program, it means don’t drink so much that you end up in a state causing trouble for you self and others, it says it in the name, drink responsibley, drink and still be responsible for your actions
