Sainsburys supermarket sweep at IWSC
Sainsbury’s products won more awards at the International Wine and Spirit Competition 2010 than any other supermarket.
The multiple-grocer won 11 medals including three golds, five silvers and three bronzes. In total it won eight more awards than the next closest retailer.
Justin James, category manager for beers, wines and spirits said of the results: “These medals recognise the hard work that goes into creating our great own-brand spirits.
“We source from the very best suppliers in the world who have a real passion for their product, and working with the experts has really paid off.”
Other supermarkets also fared well. Tesco picked up a gold (best in class) medal for its Finest 12 YO Whisky and a further two silver medals, again for whisky.
The Co-op and Waitrose won three silver medals and one silver medal respectively while Aldi pulled off a surprise win with its Oliver Cromwell 1599 Premium Gin, which was awarded the Gin and Vodka Association Trophy for Gin.
