3DTV sports in selected pubs
A selection of pubs across the UK and the Republic of Ireland have 3DTV viewing available for sports matches. More than 1,200 locations have the facilities to show the games in 3D.
The 3D viewing in pubs went live in April this year. The website, www.3DTVpubfinder.com, allows enthusiasts to find a pub with the facilities in their area.
To heighten the experience and ensure fans don’t miss a match, the site is joining forces with www.wheresthematch.com, bringing users a list of all fixtures.
The 1,200 pubs with 3DTV screens are pre-empting a significant rise in the popularity of the technology ahead of Sky’s launch of its own 3D channel on 1 October this year – a feature that will become available to all existing Sky + HD users.
The technology required to view the 3DTV is already in existence on a large scale, ready to cater for the very real demand for it, as demonstrated by the three-fold increase in search engine enquiries on the topic.
Those who have tried the technology have described the experience as “incredible” and “just like being in the stadium” – although presumably the pubs are warmer and punters have easier access to the bar.
In the mean time, those of us who are not willing to cough up the £850 or so required to buy the new 3D televisions, participating pubs will offer a cheaper and more sociable alternative.
