Parker reviews 2000 vintage

Wine critic Robert Parker has re-rated the 2000 Bordeaux vintage as it enters its tenth year and certain big names have seen a reduction in points.

Lafite, Ausone and Cheval Blanc all dropped from their perfect 100 point scores to 98+,98+ and 99 respectively.

Figeac dropped eight points, Calon Ségur three and Le Pin two, meaning they now have respective scores of 85, 91 and 96.

Haut Brion, Angelus, Evangile and Léoville Poyferré all went up with Haut Brion gaining the most, now standing at 99 points.

La Mission Haut Brion, Pavie, Lafleur, Pétrus and Margaux retained their 100 point scores.

Parker commented on the tastings saying: “As most Bordeaux lovers know, ten years is a meaningful chronological point to first re-taste Bordeaux, especially those years that are relatively structured and tannic, as is 2000.

“This tasting, which was done in March, April, and May this year, with a handful of wines re-tasted in June, proved that 2000 is aging slowly and beautifully.

“Many of the top Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines still need plenty of time in the cellar. Even the Merlot-based cuvées, which tend to perform well at an earlier age, are just beginning to enter a long plateau of maturity.”
