May: The db month in pictures

May was a busy time not only for the drinks business, but for the drinks trade as a whole. We look back on a month packed with wine fairs, launches, events and more than a few surprises.

Intrigued Londoners order a Maker’s Mark cocktail from the "vending machine" which popped up in the English capital on 24 May. Inside, a bar tender worked in rather cramped conditions to deliver drinks through the hatch.

db‘s Alan Lodge (front row centre) joins a host of luminaries from the whisky world, including Glenlivet master distiller Alan Winchester (front row far left) and renowned writer Dave Broom (back row 2nd left), at the Spirit of Speyside Festival opening dinner at Benromach Distillery, Forres.

Inside the Royal Salute Vault at Chivas Brothers’ Strathisla Distillery, db spies a plaque sitting atop the Royal Salute Coronation Cask, reserved for the crowning of Britain’s next monarch.

Glenlivet master distiller Alan Winchester leads a tasting as we take a break during the Glenlivet Smugglers Trail walk atop Carn Daimh. The 11k round trail follows in the footsteps of notorious whisky smuggler Robbie MacPherson.

db lunches with representativies from Australia’s First Families of Wine at central London’s Terroirs restaurant. (L-R) Doug McWilliams, Stephen Henschke, Leanne De Bortoli, Ross Brown, and D’Arry Osborne sipped on Vouvray, followed by red blend Cuvée Octobre from Roussillon – the Cave de Pyrene wine list has nothing from Down Under.

db hopped aboard the Orient Express for a rather classy launch event for Grant’s 25 Year Old, a travel retail exclusive to mark the 100th anniversary since Charles Gordon (son-in-law of William Grant) set off on a 12 month trip to take Grant’s to the world.
