Delamotte celebrates milestone birthday

Champagne house Delamotte celebrates its 250th anniversary this year, becoming one of only seven houses to reach this milestone age.

Lanson is also celebrating its founding 250 years ago this year and the two houses now join the ranks of Moët & Chandon, Ruinart, Taittinger, Chanoine Frères and Henri Abelé in reaching this particular birthday.

To celebrate the occasion, Didier Depond, president of Delamotte, announced the introduction of a commemorative label for the vintage blanc de blancs.

Based in the grand cru town of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger in the Côte des Blancs, Chardonnay has long been the favoured grape of Champagne Delamotte and its sister house Salon.

As Salon is only made in vintage years, when it is not produced the grapes from its vineyard parcels are used for Delamotte’s Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs and non-vintage blanc de blancs.

Founded in 1760, Delamotte is still family run but, along with Salon, is part of the Laurent-Perrier group.
