World Beer Cup Winners
A quartet of British brewers “medalled” at the World Beer Cup held last month in Chicago.
Regarded as the Oscars of the international brewing scene (both in size and the fact that it’s rather heavily accented towards American efforts), the World Beer Cup involves an international panel of 179 beer judges from 27 countries, 3,401 entries split competing in 90 beer style categories brewed by 642 breweries from 44 countries.
Rooster’s Brewery from Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, won gold and silver in the ‘English Summer Ale’ category with Leghorn 4.3% abv and its YPA (Yorkshire Pale Ale) 4.3% abv.
“We’re proud to be the only UK brewer to scoop two awards and to be amongst other great award-winning UK brewers in the competition,” said head brewer Sean Franklin.
Brewdog of Fraserburgh won a gold for its Hardcore IPA in the Imperial IPA category; Thornbridge of Derby won a silver for its Bracia beer in the Honey beer category while Shepherd Neame won a Bronze for its Spitfire in the Special Bitter/ESB category.
