Waitrose lures MW from Tesco
Pierpaolo Petrassi MW will join Waitrose in July as its BWS manager. As well as overseeing the supermarket’s team of beer, wine and spirit buyers, Petrassi will also oversee Waitrose’s vineyard project in Hampshire.
The official announcement regarding Petrassi, who is currently senior product development manager at Tesco, brings confirmation after a week of frenzied rumours in the UK trade, which had already speculated that Petrassi would join the Waitrose BWS team following the departure of Justin Howard-Sneyd MW, who joined Direct Wines in February this year.
Suzanna Duke, Waitrose’s director of buying, said: "We are delighted to announce Pierpaolo’s arrival. He brings a wealth of commercial experience as well as a passion and enthusiasm for wine.
"This role will now also include beers and spirits and Pierpaolo is excited to be working across the entire BWS category".
Petrassi, who joins Waitrose on 19 July, became a Master of Wine in 2007 and worked at WaverleyTBS prior to Tesco.
