IWSC gears up for ProWein

The IWSC is planning a major presence at this year’s ProWein in Düsseldorf, fronted by the Competition’s president for 2010, Prinz Michael zu Salm Salm.

Salm Salm will host breakfast briefings at the IWSC stand D01, Hall 7a, for both producers and press on Monday 22 March. In addition, the IWSC will be hosting daily tutored tastings from its award-winning German producers at the trade fair.

Salm Salm will use these briefings to outline the history of the leading UK wine and spirit competition, together with the benefits of entering for producers. The first briefing takes place at 8.30am, directed at producers and members of the international wine trade, followed by a second briefing for the press at 9.30am.

The tutored tastings will be held at 2pm daily, hosted by one of the IWSC’s award-winning producers. These include Sonja Höferlin from Bürgerspital in Franken, Karl Schmitt from Schmitt’s Kinder, which has won the IWSC German Producer of the Year trophy two years running, and Jochen Ratzenberger of Ratzenberger Estate in the Middle-Rhine.

Salm Salm highlighted the particular significance of ProWein in this year’s IWSC calender, saying: “It is an honour for me to be working with the IWSC and I am delighted to be attending ProWein in my capacity as president, to help further build the profile of this prestigious competition in Germany.

"As president of the VDP Prädikatsweingüter for many years, I understand the value that an IWSC medal or award can add to a wine, so I am delighted to help spread the word of the IWSC amongst my compatriots this year.”
