Hudson steps down as Australian Vintage chief

Dane Hudson, chief executive officer of Australian Vintage (AVL), is to leave the company at the end of May as the company edges nearer to a decision over a potential merger with Constellation Brands.

Hudson, who is leaving to “pursue other interests”, has been CEO at Australian Vintage for over four years.

Over the next two months Hudson will transition his responsibilities to Neil McGuigan, Australian Vintage’s general manager of production and supply, who will be appointed interim CEO on Hudson’s departure.

McGuigan himself has been a prominent wine industry figure for the past 30 years and was recently awarded the International Winemaker of the Year award at the International Wine and Spirits Competition.

Ian Ferrier, Australian Vintage chairman, said: "Dane has been AVL’s CEO for over four years and has worked closely with the board in the restructuring and repositioning of AVL during one of the most challenging times in the history of the Australian wine industry.

“Dane has shown strong leadership and commitment during this demanding period and now feels the time is right for a change.

“On behalf of the board, I thank him for his significant contribution and wish him well in the next stage of his career.”

Hudson added: “I have thoroughly enjoyed leading Australian Vintage. It is a company with outstanding people, products, suppliers and customers.

“From both a personal and career perspective this marks the right time for me to move on as AVL is well positioned to embark on future opportunities."

An Australian Vintage statement added: “Discussions with Constellation regarding a possible combining of part of their Australian and UK operations with AVL continue. AVL will keep the market informed as required by ASX listing rules.

“The Board will commence a search process to appoint a new CEO once a decision is made concerning the potential merger with Constellation Brands.”
