Cut prices and limited editions on the up at supermarkets
Morrison’s and Tesco have launched new promotions for several wines across their stores in the UK.
On-line shoppers at Tesco will be able to purchase a mixed case of McGuigan Wines for £96 this week in a limited edition run of which only 100 cases are available.
Paul Schaafsma, general manager UK and Europe for McGuigan Wines’ brand-owner Australian Vintage said: “This premium parcel with Tesco.com is a further step in the development and evolution of the McGuigan brand in the UK, and we look forward to introducing our broader portfolio of wines to the market throughout 2010.”
Meanwhile, at Morrison’s, a range of wines are to go on offer for only £6 from today (Monday 15 March) to 4 April.
The offer forms part of the retailer’s Classic Wine Festival and the products were considered “superb examples of their type” by Morrison’s buyers.
The wines include: Lussac St Emilion, down from £11.99; The Best Rioja, originally £9.11; Chablis Bertrand Capdevigne, normally £9.99; Calvet Sancerre, reduced from £12.99; and Maurice et Fils Hautes Côtes de Beaune, usually £12.99.
A further 60 wines will be on promotion at the supermarket during the same period as part of a wider ‘festival of wine’.

When will the british public suddenly take note that there is no such thing as a ‘half price deal’. These are over-priced wines already, if you google Lussac St Emilion (down from £11.50) you can find it for around £8 elsewhere. When these supermarkets have these deals, they just move any money they may be losing onto other products ie. a 1p here and a 1p there on fast movers that no-one will notice eg. if Tesco sell 10 million loaves of bread (not alot for the country) they can recover £100,000 then there is sauages, milk, beans, the list goes on and so do the supermarket rip-offs.
Who wants to buy a dozen bottles of sugared water .. I mean McGuigan’s for £96. Isn’t this juice normally around £50 a bottle? But then again, if the poster is big enough ‘WHAT A FANTASTIC DEAL….’ joe public will again fall into the trap…
