RIP Townhouse
Townhouse, the birthplace of the Porn Star Martini and a venue which helped put London on the global mixology map, has shut its doors for good.
Originally opened in 2002 by cocktail guru Douglas Ankrah, founder of the London Academy of Bartending, the Knightsbridge bar was due to reopen at the end of January after a New Year refurbishment. However at the end of last week its owners said that the bar would remain permanently closed.
In an announcement posted on Facebook on 11 February, the management said: “It is with a bitter and heavy heart that I am telling you all Townhouse is never to open again. The journey has been fun and the ending complicated.”
A regular fixture on lists of the world’s best bars, Townhouse was famous for its 80-strong cocktail list, many unique to the venue and all expertly prepared with top quality ingredients.
Signs of change had been in the air since August last year when, together with its sister venue Lab Bar in Soho, Townhouse had come under new management.
