Climate change goes local
As the world’s leaders try to thrash out a climate change deal in Copenhagen, a Danish bar and restaurant chain in Manchester is doing its own bit for the green agenda.
Kro, which operates six venues across the city, has teamed up with Foundation, an organisation set up in April 2009 as a climate fund for the north west of England.
Since November, Kro has been asking its customers to donate 1% of their bill value to Foundation. These funds will then be used to support carbon reduction projects across Greater Manchester, which range from insulating community halls to providing renewable energy in local schools.
On top of this, Kro has pledged a further 1% donation from each of the 500 or so buffet meals ordered via its catering arm each month.
Mark Ruby, director of Kro, explained: “We are really pleased to be taking part in this campaign. We feel strongly about reducing our carbon footprint and we wanted to do something to link in to the United Nations Conference in Copenhagen here in Greater Manchester. We hope this helps raise awareness of Foundation and how to address climate change.”
Kro currently operates venues on Oxford Road, Manchester Science Park, Piccadilly Gardens, Heaton Moor and the Trafford Centre.
