New Master Sommeliers announced

The Court of Master Sommeliers Worldwide has awarded eight professionals the coveted title of Master Sommelier.

A total field of 18 candidates sat this year’s exams in Theory, Tasting and Practical Service, held over the course of two days at the beginning of November.

The successful individuals were as follows:

•    Isa Bal, The Fat Duck, UK
•    João Pires, UK
•    Yohann Jousselin, Hotel du Vin Winchester, UK
•    Gearoid Devaney, Sarment Wines, UK
•    Christian Bock, Vinothek im Park, Switzerland
•    Benjamin Wolf, Hotel d’Angleterre, Switzerland
•    Bruce Walner, UK
•    Christopher Delalonde, Sarment Wines, UK

An additional award, the Champagne Laurent-Perrier Trophée Grand Siècle, was given to Christopher Delonde for achieving the highest aggregate marks in the shortest time period.

Brian Julyan, chief executive of the Court of Master Sommeliers Worldwide, said: “It is a privilege to welcome these eight outstanding men from different ends of the globe to the Court.

"They have all worked extremely hard to promote the Court and its educational charter. As Master Sommeliers, their passion and dedication will be a tremendous asset to the growth of the organisation on an international level.”

There are currently 179 individuals around the world who have earned the title of Master Sommelier since the qualification was introduced in 1969.
