Galvin restaurant ready to go
Tomorrow marks the opening of the Galvin brothers’ latest venture, Galvin La Chapelle and Café de Luxe.
Located in Spital Square, in London’s City district, the project is housed in the atmospheric 19th century St Botolph’s Hall, with the café extending onto Bishops Square.
As reported in November’s issue of the drinks business, Galvin’s new head sommelier Andrea Briccarello has worked closely with Paul Jaboulet Ainé, producers of the famous Hermitage La Chapelle, to create an impressive vintage list.
In addition to listing several rare Jaboulet wines, many of these are also being made available by the glass in both the fine dining restaurant and its more contemporary sibling.
Fans of the existing Galvin Bistro in Marylebone can expect classic house dishes such as lasagne of Dorset crab with chanterelles and chervil or slow cooked Pyrenean lamb “Basquaise” with herb ravioli.
Chef patrons Jeff and Chris Galvin explained the project, saying: “We wanted to create a place which everyone in the area can call their own and feel at home any time of the day, but one that also could become the ultimate destination restaurant.
“It’s been a lot of hard work transforming this empty space from the shell we entered a couple of years ago to the magnificent restaurant we have today, but we are absolutely delighted with the results.
“We are bringing a little of what we have created in the West End to the East End and we can’t wait to open our doors and welcome people in.”
