Fine wine prices up at London auctions
Fine wine prices are continuing to rise at London auctions. This was the message from Christie’s London Wine Department following last week’s sale which saw a case of Lafite-Rothschild 1982 go for £20,700; a case of Latour 1961 fetch £22,000 and 12 bottles of Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru, Cros Parantoux, 1978 yield £36,000 – the highest single bid of the auction.
Christie’s raised a total of £613,951 from the sale.
“The sale witnessed sustained demand from global collectors of fine wine, and prices for the finest wines from renowned blue chip producers continue to increase,” said Chris Munro, director of Christie’s London Wine Department.
“Burgundy was the star at the sale as twelve bottles of Vosne-Romanée, Cros Parantoux 1978 from Henri Jayer realized £36,800 and a rare Methuselah of La Tåche 1971 realised £17,250,” he continued.
“Other highlights included a full case of Lafite-Rothschild 1982 again exceeding £20,000, and a full case of Chåteau Latour 1961 hammering down for close to £22,000,” he added.
