Boisset extends its lead as Burgundy’s biggest producer
Boisset has extended its lead as Burgundy’s biggest wine producer with its latest acquisition in the region. The company, which owns several Burgundy brands including Domaine de La Vougeraie and J. Moreau & Fils, has acquired rival negociant Antonin Rodet.
The Burgundy merchant and producer is based the Côte Chalonnaise where it owns 90 hectares of vineyard, meaning that Boisset, through the acquisition, now has a greater presence south of the Cote d’Or. Rodet also owns Dufouleur Père & Fils in Nuits-Saint-Georges.
Rodet is owned by Sequena capital who bought the business off Laurent-Perrier in 1997.
Jean-Claude Boisset was founded in 1961, and is France’s fifth largest French wine group. Along with its Burgundy brands Domaine de La Vougeraie, Jaffelin, Ropiteau Frères, J. Moreau & Fils, Mommessin and Jean-Claude Boisset, the business has mainstream labels such as tetra pak French Rabbit as well as La Chasse du Pape and Fat Bastard, the latter two acquired when it purchased Société Gabriel Meffre in March this year.
Outside France, Boisset bought Napa Valley winery Raymond Vineyard & Cellar in August, adding to a US portfolio which includes Lyeth Estate and De Loach Vineyards.
