Aussie fine wine tasting reminds trade of quality
A tasting last week sought to remind London restaurants of the quality and diversity of Australian fine wine at a time when increasing numbers appear to be turning their backs on the category.
The Australian-only tasting was held by Fields, Morris & Verdin to show wines from Dean Hewitson, Elderton Vineyards, Giaconda and Yarra Yering among others.
Sales director for the wholesaler Damian Carrington, said, “Our customers are not requesting Australia – it’s an area that’s sticking for one reason or another.
“The tasting is designed to show the sales team, press and customers our full range from Australia – this is a gentle reminder of the quality and diversity of what’s on offer.”
New to the wholesaler is The Islander, an estate on Kangaroo Island, 75 miles from the coast of Adelaide, which is owned and run by Jacques Lurton.
A number of sommeliers from leading London restaurants attended the low-key tasting, which was held on the same day as Corney & Barrow’s largest ever trade and press tasting.
