Oregon meets Slovenia
Independent merchant Mark Savage MW of Savage Selection Ltd is holding a trade tasting in London next Friday, 2 October, to draw attention to two of his most exciting producers: The Eyrie Vineyard in Oregon and Dveri-Pax in Slovenia.
The tasting takes place in The Fox Club at 46 Clarges Street, near Green Park, from 11am until 3pm.
David Lett’s decision to plant Pinot varieties in Oregon during the 60s undoubtedly gave the state the direction which has now placed it so firmly on the world’s wine map.
Despite their unfashionable delicacy, these wines demonstrate a longevity which eludes so many other New World estates. Come and taste a selection of recent vintages, including the Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.
Dveri-Pax is a 57 hectare estate, founded in the 13th century and owned by the Benedictine monastery of Admont. Some modernisation in the cellar since the end of Communism has led to the production of what Savage refers to as “racy, sophisticated wines for the 21st century wine consumer”.
Among the wines being presented are the Sivi Pinot (Pinot Gris), Sipon (Furmint), Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc.
