Indian restaurant forms Austrian Wine Club

Austrian wine rarely receives the attention it deserves, so it’s good to see that Trishna, an Indian restaurant in Marylebone, London, is making the country a core focus for its newly formed wine club.

The Trishna Wine Club has formed a partnership with Austrian specialist The Wine Keller in Maidenhead to host a series of bi-monthly masterclasses in its Kala Khoda private dining room.

Limited to just 12 people, each event offers a six course menu complete with Austrian wine pairings.

The first masterclasses take place on 3 and 4 September, when first Michaela Allram of Weingut Allram in the Wachau and then, on the second night, Michi Reinisch of Weingut Reinisch, in the southern Thermenregion, will be present to introduce their wines and discuss the food matches.

Austrian wines are famously food friendly and Leo Kiem, Trishna’s general manager, is determined to prove that they can stand up to, and even enhance, India’s spice-driven cuisine.

Head chef Ravi Deulker’s menu includes chargrilled wild tiger prawns accompanied by Allram’s Grüner Veltliner “Hasel” Alte Reben 2006, as well as tandoori guinea fowl with fennel seed, crushed red chilli and masoor lentils, paired with the Reinisch Pinot Noir Reserve Grillenhügel 2005.

Members of the Trishna Wine Club can also take advantage of a 25% food and drink discount in the restaurant, a 10% food discount on its outside catering service and free hire of the restaurant’s private dining room.
