Courvoisier floats your boat

Courvoisier and Bompas & Parr have joined forces to create the Architectural Punch Bowl cocktail competition.

Mixologists, architects and creatively-minded members of the public are invited to devise a cocktail suitable for filling a punch bowl so large you can row a boat across it.

The winning entry will be transformed by Bompas & Parr into a drinkable installation at 33 Portland Place in London. Visitors will be able to enjoy a glass of the winning punch, before boarding a rowing boat to scull across its surface. The Bompas & Parr team is currently working with University College London to research the practical issues posed by this huge scale operation.

The judging panel draws on an eclectic source of expertise, including food historian Ivan Day, UCL professor of innovative technology Stephen Gage and former restaurant critic Jonathan Meades, who is currently a presenter for the BBC.

Janice McIntosh, Maxxium’s UK marketing manager for Courvoisier comments: “The competition allows mixologists and anyone who has a vision of the ultimate drink to showcase their creativity. It should also be lots of fun. Early indicators show that there’s going to be tough competition between inspired entries.”

The only stipulation for entrants, apart from meeting the 5 October deadline, is that the cocktail must include VSOP Courvoisier Exclusif, a Cognac blend specifically designed for mixing. There’s a charitable incentive to get involved as well, with the project raising money for Article 25, a charity dedicated to providing building expertise to aid agencies.
