Thieves return stolen 1945 Mouton Rothschild
A bottle of ’45 Mouton Rothschild that was stolen from a Massachusetts wine shop has been returned, unopened.
The wine, valued at over US$20,000, was taken last week from Hopkinton Wine & Spirits, along with three other valuable labels.
Police said that a women in her mid-20s walked into the wine store on 29 July and distracted the shop assistant, while two men went to the back of the retailer and removed four bottles of wine – the 1945 Mouton Rothschild and three others together worth around $2,000.
Later, a store surveillance video posted at massmostwanted.org and shown on local news stations led to the wine’s recovery. Apparently a member of the public who saw the footage and knew one of the people responsible for the theft encouraged them to hand over the bottle.
As a result the Mouton Rothschild was returned to Boston Police and then to the Hopkinton store earlier this week. However, the three other bottles remain missing.
The 64-year-old Mouton Rothschild got a 100 point score from Robert Parker who sampled it recently, adding that he chose the perfect score, "only because my point scale stops at that number."
