Hunger charity holds fine wine auction

International chartity Action Against Hunger is to hold a fine wine auction and four-course dinner to raise money for combatting malnutrition worldwide.

Heston Blumenthal, Angela Hartnett, Fergus Henderson and Herbert Berger will create the menu for the event, which will be held at London restaurant 1 Lombard Street on 10 October. Hallgarten Druitt are donating the wine for the dinner, while Christies will host the auction.

Fergus Henderson, chef patron of St John restaurant, has posed naked in a “wine-filled” bath at the Sanctum Soho hotel to promote the event and capture its theme of “turning wine into water” – illustrating that all funds raised from the evening will help Action Against Hunger fight hunger and malnutrition worldwide.
Guests on the night will enjoy a Champagne reception and four-course dinner created by the team of famous chefs. The food will be served with Marchesi De Frescobaldi wines from Hallgarten Druitt, selected by Peter McCombie MW and Thierry Tomasin, Master of Culinary Arts.

David Elswood, international head of wine at Christies, will host a live auction.

Lots include a meal for two at Ferran Adrià’s El Bulli; a private dining experience for twelve at London’s Corrigans and two Jereboams of Felton Road Block 2006 Pinot Noir, worth in excess of £3,000.

In addition, lingerie brand Agent Provocateur has donated a one-off item to be auctioned on the night – a lace kimono containing hundreds of Swarovski crystals.
Tickets for the evening are priced at £160. For further information or to purchase tickets, please contact Heidi Drummond on 020 8293 6133 or h.drummond@aahuk.org
