First export of new NZ region
Wines from New Zealand’s newest wine region have been released outside of the country for the very first time.
Following their success on the domestic market, Mt Beautiful wines from the new sub-region of Cheviot Hills in Canterbury are being distributed in the UK by Genesis Wines.
The potential of the Cheviot Hills region was first recognised by Mt Beautiful’s creator Dr David Teece of Teece Family Vineyards in 2004. After his discovery, Teece planted Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir in the 70 hectare vineyard in this new area, which is described as “slightly cooler than Marlborough with similar rainfall levels.”
Teece said his team is excited to be able to present the wines from his first vintage to wine lovers in the UK. He said: “Genesis Wines has built up an excellent reputation in the market and we’re thrilled to be working with them.”
Meanwhile, Genesis Wine’s managing director Tom Heywood-Lonsdale said: “The release of Mt Beautiful wines in the UK presents wine lovers with the rare opportunity to share the discovery of a brand new wine region with impeccable credentials.”
