The Institute of Masters of Wine officially launched its next Symposium at Vinexpo yesterday. The four-day event, entitled Forging Links, is open to all members of the trade and takes place in Bordeaux next year.

The launch took place at the CIVB Pavilion at Vinexpo and was hosted by the Institute’s current chairman, Dr Josef Schuller MW and Alain Vironneau, president of the CIVB – the major sponsor of the event.

The Forging Links Symposium will address and discuss connections in the global wine industry through seminars on topics including Emerging Wine Countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and Wine on the Web.

A number of leading industry experts will be speaking at the Symposium including Michel Rolland, Christian Seely and Miguel Torres while MWs participating in seminar discussions include Jancis Robinson MW, Olivier Humbrecht MW and Michael Hill Smith MW.

Since yesterday’s launch, "tickets have already been snatched up at the early bird rate of Euros500," says Clive Barlow MW, communications officer for the Symposium. 10% of he places are available at an early reduced rate and tickets include entry to all the seminars as well as entry to some of the "fantastic dinners and beautiful lunches," added Barlow.

The event, for which the drinks business is the media partner, will take place at the Cité Mondiale du Vin in the centre of Bordeaux 24-27 June 2010.

IMW Symposia take place every four years, the events are open to all members of the trade, not just Masters of Wine.
