Lurton’s hatrick of releases

François Lurton has been busy recently, launching not just one but three new wines, one Portuguese and two Chilean, at last week’s London International Wine Fair.

Pilheiros Vinho Verde 2008 is the fourth wine in the Pilheiros range and comes from Badim, it is made from 100% Alvarinho and has an RRP of £14. Talking of the new wine, Lurton said: “Vinho Verde can be a superb wine and deserves more recognition internationally. Alvarinho is a much underrated variety, I want to push it further.”

Meanwhile, Lurton’s two new Chilean whites both come from the Lolol Valley in Colchagua. Humo Blanco 2008, with an RRP of £16 is a cool barrel-fermented Sauvignon Blanc, aged for four to six months in oak and displays citrus and herbal flavours.

Kochü 2008 is the sweet wine addition to the portfolio with an rrp of £16 per 50cl bottle. Made from late-harvested Sauvignon Blanc grapes, Lurton states that the proximity of the ocean and morning mists are imperative to the production of this wine.
