Ian d’Agata, author of the Ecco Guide to the Best Wines of Italy and of Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar says: “No other wine producing region of Italy, with the possible exceptions of Campania, Friuli and Piedmont has Lazio’s diversity of indigenous grape varietals. Little known and almost forgotten varieties such as malvasia puntinata, bellone, bombino, grechetto, trebbiano giallo or roscetto, cesanese d’Affile, and nero buono di Cori, are now being planted extensively. Lazio’s wines offer something for everyone, including tasty, every day dry white wines, fuller bodied barrel fermented versions, light easy going reds, age worthy keepers, and lusciously sweet, noble rot affected stickies. Even better, many of these wines, though made in dishearteningly small quantities, are wonderful value for the money.â€
