Glenmorangie unveils Sonnalta PX
Glenmorangie has unveiled the first expression in its new Private Collection range of rare limited edition whiskys.
Glenmorangie Sonnalta PX – which is exclusive to global travel retail – is bottled at 46% ABV and is non chill-filtered to impart a full body and robust flavour. The name Sonnalta comes from the Gaelic translation of the word “generous”.
Following maturation, original Glenmorangie is transferred to PX (Pedro Ximenez) ex-sherry casks from the south of Spain, where the fruity and floral complexities of the drink are further enhanced to create a finished whisky that carries notes of dark chocolate, raisins and coffee, with cherries and hints of leather and toast bursting through upon the addition of water.
Dr Bill Lumsden, head of distilling and whisky creation at Moët Hennessy-owned Glenmorangie, said: “Glenmorangie Sonnalta PX is an extraordinarily rich, dark and absorbing whisky.
“I take the twice-yearly trip to Spain to select the very best PX casks to use alongside our mainstay bourbon barrels from the US.
“This is our first release for Glemorangie’s Private Collection, with more rare, delicious releases to come in the future.”
Glenmorangie Sonnalta PX is available exclusively to the travel retail sector, RRP £62.99.
