Fairtrade Fortnight extravaganza

Fairtrade wines will enjoy special attention from UK retailers during the next two weeks as the country’s largest promotional campaign for all Fairtrade products gets underway. Starting on Monday this week, Fairtrade Fortnight features a number of wines on special offer in order to entice customers to trade into this section of the market.

The promotional campaign provides the opportunity for producers "to highlight the quality and variety of Fairtrade wines" to the consumers and will feature in a number of retailers including Morrisons, EH Booth, Spar and Asda.

UK importer, agent and distributor Nicholas Ingham of Equality Wines Ltd which produces Equality by Las Lomas said: “It’s quite simple – you don’t have to change your shopping habits – just enjoy a bottle of great wine from Chile and know that you are making a difference to the producers and their communities."

According to the Fairtrade Foundation, UK sales of Fairtrade wines grew 47% by volume and 51% by value between 2006 and 2007. Furthermore, according to market research company Wine Intelligence, UK consumers are "more likely to believe in Fairtrade rather than organic."

The Fairtrade Fortnights runs from 22 February until 8 March 2009. Click here for further details.
