Constellation reveals colossal warehouse
Constellation has opened Europe’s largest wine warehouse and distribution centre, Constellation Park. The new hub will not only be used to store all bottles arriving in the UK, but for the first time, will allow the company to begin UK bottling of its high-volume Australian brands.
Covering 80,000m2 in Avonmouth, near Bristol, the fruit of this €50 million investment employs approximately 300 people. The site is expected to be fully operational by 1 May, although it received the first bulk delivery from Australia last November. The bottling line is expected to process nine million cases each year. In all, the facility will offer Constellation Europe improved supply chain efficiency and increased product availability.
In addition to the logistical benefits created by the Park, there is likely to be a significant environmental impact for the company. Constellation anticipates a cut in its UK transport-related CO2 emissions by more than a third, with a 10% reduction for products sold in mainland Europe. The building will also be used for rainwater harvesting and features energy-saving light sensor controls.
