The Famous Grouse to celebrate Robert Burns

Continuing in its bid to promote all things Scottish, The Famous Grouse will be taking part in a series of Burns Night activities in partnership with Homecoming Scotland 2009, a Scottish government initiative celebrating the country’s contributions to the world.

25 January marks the 250th anniversary of the birth of Scotland’s best loved bard, and a number of events are planned to mark the occasion.

Bars across Scotland will be provided with Burns promotional kits, with each kit containing scratchcards to be given out with a purchase of The Famous Grouse. The prize on offer is a limited edition World Famous Burns Supper toasting glass. Sampling will also be taking place during January in key supermarkets across Scotland.

In addition to the kits and the sampling, The Famous Grouse is also the official sponsor of The World Famous Burns Supper. The website has been developed by Homecoming Scotland 2009 in order to bring Burns’ devotees from around the world together online, calling on them to register their celebrations. The site hopes to break the world record for the greatest number of Burns suppers ever held.

Marking both the 250th anniversary celebrations and the supper, The Famous Grouse is specially creating 250 limited edition bottles of 37 year old blended malt. The bottles are only available for charity auction, with the aim of getting those holding Burns Supper events to bid for them, raising upwards of £400 for their nominated charity.

Gerry O’Donnell, Global Director of the Famous Grouse, said: "With an estimated 45 million Scottish descendents around the world, this is a great opportunity to bring everyone together to celebrate Scottish roots and heritage. What better way to toast the nation’s best loved bard, than with a dram of the nation’s favourite whisky."
