New Oomoos from Hardys

Constellation Europe will launch three new varietals under its premium Hardys Oomoo label to the UK at the upcoming Australia Day tastings. The updated line-up will now include an Adelaide Hills Chardonnay 2007, a Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 and an Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc 2008.

Thomas Hardy, founder of the Hardys brand over 150 years ago, borrowed the word ‘oomoo’, meaning ‘good’ or ‘attractive’, from local Aboriginal dialect to name one of the first red wines produced at his original Bankside Winery.

Constellation is hoping the premium Oomoo range, with an SSP of £9, will reach a different target market to the normal Hardys offering, bringing in new consumers while encouraging existing ones to trade up.

The Oomoo Adelaide Hills Chardonnay 2007 will be available in Tesco from mid-March, where it will join the existing Oomoo McLaren Vale Grenache/Shiraz/Mourvedre 2006 listing.
