Chile’s Best of Show winner is revealed

The top prize at the 6th Wines of Chile Awards has been given to an organic Malbec. Odfjell Vineyards’ Orzada Malbec Organic 2006 was named Best of Show at the competition’s Gala Dinner in Santiago.

Viña Concha y Toro and Veranda also performed well in the competition, each collecting two of the 13 available trophies. Concha y Toro won the Merlot Trophy for its Marques de Casa Concha 2006 while it shared the Best Value Red Wine Trophy for its Palo Alto Reserva 2007 with Viña El Aromo’s Reserva Privada Cabernet Sauvignon. Veranda won the Pinot Noir Trophy as well as the Red Blend Trophy for its Cabernet/Carmenère blend.

The all-US judging panel awarded a medal to nearly two-thirds of the competition’s entries as 325 wines picked up a Gold, Silver or Bronze medal this year.

The judges were Kevin Zraly, Windows on the World; Robert Bradshaw, Banyan Consulting; Sandy Block MW, Legal Sea Foods; Robin Kelley O’Connor, Sherry-Lehmann; Josh Raynolds, International Wine Center; Michael Schachner, Wine Enthusiast; David Rosengarten, Rosengarten Report; Linda Murphy Decanter and the San Francisco Chronicle and Patrick Comiskey, Wine & Spirits.
