Virgin bucks the trend
Not everyone is finding Christmas trade so difficult. Virgin Wines has just recorded its highest-ever weekly sales volume. Its 30,000 case sales is a 100% volume increase on like-for-like business with 2007, and has generated £1.84 million.
With more than 500,000 customers, Europe’s largest independent online wine retailer attributed its success to outstanding service and genuine value.
Managing director of Virgin Wines, Jay Wright said: “It just goes to show that whatever the market conditions, businesses with talented employees and a first class product can still thrive.”
Less than a month ago, the mail order merchant reached a milestone by breaking the £1m sales in a week barrier.
The company was named British newspaper The Observer’s Mail Order Wine Merchant of the Year last week and in September, it was awarded Best Multi-Media Strategy at the CCF European Call Centre Awards.
