Inaugural Sparkling wine Symposium
The UK will host the inaugural International Sparkling Wine Symposium next year. The event was chosen to take place in England because of the great deal of interest in sparkling wine production in the UK and will be hosted by England’s largest wine producer, Denbie’s Wine Estates in Surrey.
A host of expert speakers are already confirmed for the event on 18 March 2009. Confirmed speakers include Australian Master of Wine Steve Charters, Tony Jordan of Domaine Chandon in Australia, Michel Salgues, former winemaker of Roederer Estate in California and renowned Champagne expert Tom Stevenson.
The event is scheduled to cover topics such as global challenges of growing grapes for sparkling wine, the art of assemblage which will include a tasting of vins clair, new developments in sparkling winemaking and global market trends and consumer insight.
The event was created by winemaking consultants John Worontschak and Sam Harrop MW together with Denbies. Worontschak said: “Despite working with wineries across the world we have found no current forum for sharing sparkling winemaking and marketing experience. After discussing the idea with Denbies, who agreed to host a Symposium, we assembled a team of specialists such as journalist Jamie Goode, to organise the first ever globally-focused event.”
