Fairtrade wine tasting’s third birthday
The third annual Fairtrade tasting will takes place next month at Vinopolis in London. Organised by the UK Fairtrade Wine Committee, the event will see eight licensees showcase up to 100 wines from Argentina, South Africa and Chile.
An additional feature to this year’s tasting will be an area dedicated to people from Fairtrade wineries who are visiting the UK. The purpose of their presence is to provide a platform to discuss the way in which their communities are benefiting from Fairtrade, as well as the individual Fairtrade projects.
The day itself will be sectioned into two sections, one for trade and press and anoher for consumers. The evening’s consumer event will be supported by retailers such as Asda, Sainsbury’s, The Co-Operative, Threshers and Waitrose.
The organisers are hoping that after the success of last year’s tasting, there will be even more interest for this year’s event, with approximately 350 visitors expected to visit.
Emma Sundt, business development officer for the Fairtrade Foundation commented: “I am delighted to see this sector collaborate so effectively for the benefit of Fairtrade. Within the Fairtrade sector, wine really is leading the way in organising events such as this tasting and the wine competition.”
