Champagne Ambassador Award goes to home nation
A French wine educator has won the 2008 Champagne Ambassador’s Award. Aurélie Labruyère beat seven other finalists in her bid to win the competition in its fourth year. Labruyère’s fellow competitors hailed from the UK, France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Holland and Switzerland.
The UK entrant, Sophie Rudge, was the runner-up of the Ambassador’s Award while other candidates had success in other awards that were announced at the competition’s gala dinner on Friday last week.
The Prix Special du Jury was won by German contestant Yvonne Heistermann and the Prix Special du CIVC was awarded to Johan Mullerbrouck from Belgium.
The gala dinner was the culmination of a series of events for the eight finalists. The five-day event included a series of tours and tastings to bolster the competitors’ knowledge followed by a presentation to a panel of nine judges on this year’s theme, effervescence.
The Champagne Ambassador’s Award is organised by the Comité Interprofessionel du Vin de Champagne to recognise and reward the work of wine lecturers and teachers in Europe.
