Linley’s miniature Margaux
Those who fancy owning a handcrafted doll’s house as well as 18 of Château Margaux’s most celebrated vintages should contact the Antique Wine Company. The firm has teamed up with David Linley to produce an architectural cabinet – a replica of the château – containing vintages from 1900 to 2005.
The wine cabinet, which is made from sycamore, ripple sycamore, burr ash and Bombay rosewood, is one of a limited edition – only five will be made. The first will go to the Château, the second to the Antique Wine Company, while the remaining three will be sold to the company’s clients for £195,000. The company has decided against holding an auction and sales will be conducted on a first come, first served basis.
Over the next three years, LINLEY will create eight architectural cabinets modelled upon châteaux Cheval Blanc, Haut Brion, Lafite, Latour, Mouton Rothschild, Pétrus and Château d’Yquem.
The cabinet is not temperature controlled. Stephen Williams, MD of The Antique Wine Company, therefore expects it to be stored in clients’ cellars, perhaps in an ante room used for entertaining. “The way that people consume wine has changed. Today, there is more emphasis on entertainment and wine has become integrated into modern life rather than hidden away in a dusty cellar. This cabinet is a further expression of this trend.”
