Cox leaving Brown-Forman
Brown-Forman is laying off its European wine marketing team as part of a re-structure. David Cox, managing director for Europe at Brown-Forman Wines, will be leaving the company, as is Simon Legge, marketing director, and the rest of his European marketing team.
Brown-Forman is moving the marketing of wine brands such as Fetzer and Bonterra into the company’s head office in Louisville, Kentucky, and merging the running of wine and spirits operations within continental Europe. However, the wine business in Britain will not be incorporated into spirits operations and the UK sales director for wine brands will remain.
The restructure for mainland Europe follows the coming together of the wine and spirits businesses in the US two years ago.
Cox, who founded Brown-Forman’s European wine division in 1995 said, “I am pleased to say that my departure, after 13 years of initially setting up and then building our European wine business, is very amicable and my redundancy is being treated sensitively and professionally by the company. Â
“I have enjoyed immensely working for Brown-Forman and believe that now we have implemented a new strategic direction for our wine brands, they are poised for profitable growth and will continue to grow, albeit within a new operating environment.”
